šŸ‘‹šŸ»  Hello!

Thanks for visiting! You'll find a bunch of musings I've been writing around these parts since the early 2000's. Lately, I've been reviewing a lot of books. But I also write about code and my experiments using generative AI. But really, you're just here to see pictures of Benson.

Thanks for showing us the future, Steve

Apple steve jobs

Steve Jobs, September 9th, 2009 by Dave Schumaker

There’s little that I can add or say about Steve Jobs that hasn’t already been covered by more eloquent writers elsewhere.

I feel fortunate that I was able to see him in person on a number of occasions, showing off some of his most beloved inventions.

His enthusiasm was intoxicating and his drive was inspiring.

Here’s to the crazy ones. The rebels. The troublemakers. The ones who see things differently. While some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

We’ll miss you so much, Steve. Thanks for showing us what the future will be like.

Dinosaur down!

Dinosaur down!

One of our cats, Tosh, decided to smite our dinosaur plants while we were sleeping last night.

I guess we shouldn’t be surprised. I mean, they’ve chopped down their cat tree at one point.

It’s Monday, but it isn’t…

I’ve been messing around with the ridiculously cheesy (but pretty fun) Songify app on the iPhone which auto-tunes spoken word and applies it to a backing musical track.

I thought I’d make my own musical debut. Rebecca Black, watch out!

It’s Monday. (Only it isn’t, because I’m dumb and recorded this song this morning — when it was actually Tuesday.)

Hey, it’s been awhile!

I should post some more updates soon. It’s been pretty hectic lately with travels to New York City, Yosemite, Austin, and soon, Seattle.

Moving to Oakland

It’s official. After living in San Francisco for the last seven and a half years, I’m moving! More specifically, Kerry and I are moving to Oakland. There are a number of reasons: easier commutes for both of us (seriously! BART > Muni), cheaper, and the apartment we’re moving into is just fabulous.

Don’t worry, I still love you, San Francisco. We’re just trying something new for a bit!

It seems like such a lovely place, doesn’t it? šŸ˜‰

Blek le Rat stencil at Cafe Divis

This is a relatively new stencil that popped up at my favorite neighborhood coffee shop. It was created by a French street artist named Blek Le Rat. Some have speculated that Blek le Rat’s stencil style is the inspiration for Banksy.

Via Wikipedia:

British graffiti artist Banksy has acknowledged Blek’s influence stating "every time I think I’ve painted something slightly original, I find out that Blek Le Rat has done it as well, only twenty years earlier."

STS-134 NASA Tweetup and the final flight of the Space Shuttle Endeavour

On April 28th and April 29th, 2011, I was fortunate enough to participate in the NASA Tweetup for STS-134. It was to be the final flight of the Space Shuttle Endeavour and the second to last mission in the Space Shuttle program. I traveled to the Space Coast from San Francisco and spent three fantastic days with fellow Twitter users and enthusiastic space geeks at Kennedy Space Center. Things didn’t always go as planned (you’ll see), but it was an experience that I’ll cherish and never forget. Godspeed, Endeavour.
