Snowboarding Foiled!

While visiting my parents for the holidays in Southern California, I tried to head to the local ski resorts for a couple of snowboarding sessions. Mother nature wouldn’t have any of it. I tried to go on Christmas Day and part of the resort ended up being shut down due to winds!

New Movie – The Bush Matrix

And in related news, the Turkish company that made the shoe thrown at George Bush has been flooded with orders.

Istanbul-based Baydan Shoes claims it made the shoes and says it now has 300,000 orders – more than four times the shoe’s normal annual sale. He said orders had been made from countries around the world, including the US, Britain and Iraq.

The black leather shoe was called Model 271 but has been renamed Bush shoe, the company said.

Fake Polaroids

Playing around with a cool little application named “Poladroid,” that creates fake polaroid photos based on pictures you feed it. Kind of fun. The results are pretty impressive!

Taking a Swing at Things

Went golfing this weekend with some old friends at the Calimesa Country Club. This was probably the second time in my life that I’ve ever played golf. Here I am, taking a swing at things.

The video was filmed with a Kodak Zi6.

Killer Cookies

Back home in Mentone to visit my family and friends for Christmas. While hanging out with some friends earlier this weekend, we created some “killer cookies.”

40 And Counting

Just went to my 40th In N’ Out burger today. Wow!

To celebrate, I created a pseudo web app (iPhone and iPod Touch friendly!) that show a map of all the locations I’ve been to. Check it out!

Gingerbreadmanocide

picture-3

While hanging out at AGU today, I stopped by the local coffee shop to recharge with some caffeine and sugar. As I was happily gnawing away on the limbs of my newfound gingerbread man, I couldn’t help but to coin a new word (this is what multiple, full days of science do to you).

Gingerbreadmanocide

Definition (noun) – The deliberate and systematic extermination of a type of pastry.

American Geophysical Union in San Francisco

This week is the annual AGU conference in San Francisco. It’s basically a who’s who in the world of geosciences, with lots of exciting research, talks, and poster sessions going on. There are somewhere around 15,000 scientists attending this year.

Over on my Geology News blog, I posted a video that I put together.

Alligators at the California Academy of Sciences

I shot a private event this past weekend at the California Academy of Sciences. One of the benefits is that the museum was mostly empty. I took advantage of this by wandering around the aquarium and checking things out.

Interestingly enough, since it was evening, many of the animals were actually active. Including the alligators.
