  • Designed and maintained a portal and community for geoscience related news on the internet.
  • Designed front-end presentation of the site and made sure fresh, new content was regularly posted from 3 different contributors.

  • Initially designed the site using our own content management / blogging system using HTML / CSS, PHP, MySQL, and Javascript before moving the site over to a customized WordPress installation in late 2005.

PHOTO SAFARI COORDINATOR, PHOTOJOJO

  • Planned and organized a series of free, public photo safaris in San Francisco with upwards of 100 photographers attending. Scouted out potential routes and contacted venues to schedule hosting options.
  • Promoted the events through online and offline media and covered by newspapers such as the SF Chronicle.
  • Answered questions about our events from potential participants in a concise and timely manner.
  • During the events, I ensured smooth operation of the festivities and led participants through the streets of San Francisco.

COMMUNITY MANAGER AND FRONT-END WEB DEVELOPER, HIPSTERATE;

  • Primary liaison between development team and the community.
  • Addressed any concerns or questions that users had and relayed constructive comments to our development team.
  • Updated the official site blog with our latest activities and features and promoted the website through various mediums (web and print).
  • Developed and maintained the initial MySQL database back-end and front-end PHP, HTML, and CSS of the website.

OUTREACH ASSISTANT, SF-ROCKS;

  • Worked with high school students and their teachers to show how scientific research projects related to earth studies were conducted.
  • Guided students in conducting their own independent research that would eventually be presented in front of a national science conference.
  • Also designed and maintained the SF-ROCKS web page using standards compliant HTML and CSS.

  • Conducted independent research projects in geophysics and seismology that involved statistical analysis of raw seismic data in a laboratory.
  • Involved in field work that required the installation of radio-networked sensors to monitor the propagation of seismic waves.
  • Interpreted seismic data on UNIX workstations using a combination of MATLab, Generic Mapping Tools, Seismic Analysis Code 2000, and C++.
